Use dynamic text to create TICKETING screen design

Prev Next

Data-driven content lets you pull live values — like a ticketing counter number — into your display designs instead of typing them in by hand. It builds on the basic display templates covered in the previous tutorial, this time using custom fields to make part of the design dynamic.

A good example is a ticketing counter display. Our goal is to create a screen design where the counter number is stored as part of the display configuration, using the Ticketing custom field. This field needs to be configured before you create the content — you can set or change any custom field value under Custom fields in the Assets category of the left main menu sidebar.

The same approach works for other dynamic values too, such as check-in counter numbers, baggage belt numbers, and gate numbers.

Topics covered:

Templates tab - Designer:

  • Dynamic text-driven by display asset values,

  • Date & time feature

TUTORIAL STEPS:

A) To categorize your screens or add any other attributes, use Custom Fields. Here you can create a new field called "Ticketing" for your displays with your custom values.

  1. Under Assets on the left-hand menu, open the Custom Fields tab.

  2. Click on the New Custom Field button in the lower right-hand corner.

B) Configure your new Custom Field.

Under Add New Custom Field, fill in the attributes.

  1. Name your custom field "Ticketing."

  2. Under the Values section, create your list of values for the new custom field, tick the green icon to confirm.

  3. Once done, click on Save in the lower right-hand corner.

NoteAll your new custom fields are automatically visible on your display configuration on the Displays tab in the Asset values section.

C) Assign a ticketing counter number to your display using the predefined asset values on the Displays tab.

D) Design new content in the Templates tab - see how to do this in the Create basic STATIC content tutorial.

E) Add Dynamic text to your canvas.

  1. Click on the Text icon in the top menu and choose Dynamic Text.

  2. Place the element on the canvas.

  3. On the right-hand menu, click on the blue Data Source Editor button to edit the Dynamic Text.

F) Dynamic Text Editor will allow you to compose text from data & custom fields using the list on the right side of the editor. You can also include any static text.

  1. Drag and drop the Dynamic Text part from the custom field list on the right-hand side.

  2. Write any static text you want to display before the dynamic text.

  3. Click on the OK button to confirm the settings.

G) Style your Dynamic Text using the right-hand sidebar.

  1. Check the created dynamic text.

  2. On the right-hand menu, you can edit the dynamic text settings to your content.

Note: If you need to use different fonts or colors for different text parts, you must create multiple static/dynamic text elements.

H) Add a Date & Time element.

  1. Click on the Widgets icon in the top menu and select Date & Time.

  2. Place the element on the canvas.

  3. On the right-hand menu, configure the placed element's settings.

I) Preview the designed content template.
You can click Select display configuration to see how the final design looks with the dynamic text loaded from the ticketing counter asset value assigned to the display.

  1. Click on the Preview icon on the top menu.

  2. Click on Select Display Configuration to choose the display where the content will be assigned and see how the dynamic text will be shown.

  3. Once the display has been selected, the assigned ticketing counter number will be displayed.

  4. Click on the OK button to close the window.

Note: The correct ticketing counter number will be visible in preview only if the selected display has the asset value Ticketing assigned (see tutorial step C).

J) Click on the Save & Publish button in the lower right-hand corner when your content is final. Now it is ready to be assigned and shown on your display.

K) Further design ideas to enhance your ticketing display content:

  • Add a logo, a luggage icon, or other media from the Media library,

  • Add static text information,

  • Change the background color.
