In the previous tutorial on designing a [Ticketing screen](/v1/docs/create-dynamic-text-ticketing-air), we covered dynamic text; here, we'll use the same custom fields functionality to introduce **Dynamic media**, a feature that recalls media items based on data and custom fields. As an example, we'll build a Security checkpoint display template that shows whether a security screening lane is **open or closed**, using the Security custom field, which comes preconfigured in the base system. The same approach also works for other use cases, such as airline counter screens and airline logos on flight lists. Topics covered: Dynamic media tab Templates tab - Designer: - Dynamic media driven by display custom field values **Sample screens:** ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security%20closed.png) ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security%20open(2).png) [Download Security Closed image](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security closed(1).png) [Download Security Open image](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security open(3).png) --- **TUTORIAL STEPS:** **Prerequisite:** **Assign a *Security* custom field** **to your display(s)** with values according to the default lane/counter situation; see [Connect and configure DISPLAYS](/v1/docs/connect-and-configure)[.](/v1/docs/1-connect-and-configure-display) | A) Create a new item on the **Dynamic media** tab. 1. Open the *Dynamic Media* tab on the left-hand menu. 2. Click on the *New Dynamic Media* button in the bottom right-hand corner. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide1(138).JPG) | | --- | --- | | B) **Configure new dynamic media.** Dynamic media is configured using a **table**. Just like in a spreadsheet or database, you can add **named columns and rows**. For every **combination of column and row, an image or video** can be uploaded. A dynamic media item can be recalled manually by selecting **row & column combinations. The** **row & column selection can be driven by data** such as a **custom field** or a **field in a flight record**. A good example is selecting a carrier logo based on the IATA code in the flight record. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide2(171).JPG) | | C) For our ***Security checkpoint display*** tutorial, we will start configuring a new **D****ynamic Media** table. 1. In the *Name* input box, enter the name of your new Dynamic Media. 2. In the *Type* drop-down, choose a media type. 3. Add a column by clicking on the + icon on the top. 4. Add a row by clicking on the + icon on the left with the same names as the corresponding custom field values. *Note*: Use the same row names as used for items in custom field *Security* to match the configuration. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide4(134).JPG) | | D) Add **media (images)** to all possible combinations from the Media Library. Keep in mind that you can always upload new files to the library. 1. Mouse over the status value in the table and the box will turn grey, and an Upload icon will appear. Click on the *Upload* icon. 2. An Upload window will appear; upload and choose the relevant media from the Media Library for each row. 3. Click on the *Save* button in the lower right-hand corner. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide5(110).JPG) [Download Security Closed image](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security closed(1).png) [Download Security Open image](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Security open(3).png) | | E) Design new content in the **Templates** tab - see how to do this in the [Create basic STATIC content](/v1/docs/create-static-content) tutorial. | | F) Add **Dynamic Media** to your template. 1. Click on the Media icon on the top menu and select Dynamic Media. 2. Place the element on the canvas; configure the Position and Size of the element. 3. Under Dynamic Media, choose Dynamic Media (e.g., SECURITY) from the first drop-down on the right-hand menu. 4. Configure your Dynamic Media (see next). | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide6(113).JPG) | | G) **Configure** the Dynamic Media element. 1. Under Dynamic Media on the left-hand side, select Manual from the Column drop-down on the right-hand side as a value. 2. Select status from the Variable Selector drop-down. 3. Select Data Source from the Row drop-down under Column ID. 4. Click the *Edit Row Data Source* button, and drag and drop the custom field Security from the right-hand list. 5. Click *OK* in the lower right-hand corner to confirm the settings. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide7(78).JPG) | | H) **Preview** the designed content with **assigned display configuration** to see specific custom field values chosen in your display's configuration on the *Displays* tab. 1. Click on the *Preview* icon on the top menu. 2. Click on *Select Display Configuration* to choose the display where the content will be assigned and see how the dynamic text will be shown. 3. Click on the *OK* button to close the window. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide8(92).JPG) | | I) Click on the *Save & Publish* button in the lower right-hand corner when your content design is final. Now it is **ready to be assigned and shown on your display.** | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide9(44).JPG) | | J) Switch between your security checkpoints closed and open state by changing the **Security custom field value in the detail of your display on the Displays tab.** 1. Click on the Displays tab under Device Management on the left-hand menu. 2. Under Content Assignment, assign your Security Content by clicking on the Assign button. 3. Under Asset Values, select a value from the Security drop-down to trigger the media change on your display. 4. Click on the Save button on the lower right-hand corner to save. 5. Open your SimpleVUE media player to see the content changes when switching the Security custom field values. | ![](https://cdn.document360.io/a3e67867-6316-451b-94ad-ec727ac9102a/Images/Documentation/Slide10(42).JPG) |
